After eight hours of waiting, NUSD returned to the table with an insult, not a proposal. They increased their salary proposal for 2026-27 by a quarter percent to 2.25%, while leaving their 2025-26 salary proposal at 2%. This is both far below the cost of living increase in the state budget and will not solve the staffing crisis that leaves 800 of our students sitting in classrooms without a permanent teacher. Their proposal to pay WHA for only two years remained essentially the same: a temporary band-aid not long term relief. While the District gave us excuses, our team was fueled by the incredible energy that our community brought this afternoon. We were ready to stay all night to end this crisis – NUSD chose to walk away.
These last few days have proved that our solidarity is unbreakable, and that’s exactly what will win this fight. The District is banking on us getting tired; instead, we’re getting stronger. Stay tuned for an action update tomorrow. WE WILL WIN! You can find the district’s proposal HEREYou can find NTA’s current proposal HERE
